If you missed Springfield Mile I, you get a second chance to catch one of the most prestigious events on the American Flat Track circuit on Sunday, September 3. A Labor Day weekend traditions fans flock to the Illinois State Fairgrounds to watch the world’s best flat track racers reach speeds of 140 mph on the Mile course to earn the coveted Springfield Mile win in the premier AFT Twins class.
Last year, Kenny Coolbeth, Jr. pulled off the upset ending Bryan Smith’s win streak at Springfield in a thrilling finish, crossing the line .009 of a second over the “Mile Specialist.” It also marked Coolbeth’s first GNC1 (now AFT Twins) win of 2016. In GNC2 (now AFT Singles), the newly crowned champ Ryan Wells scored his second-straight Springfield Mile win.
New for 2017, it’s an AFT Twins-only event with the support class, AFT Singles, taking center stage the day before on the Springfield Short Track.
