As the longest running event on the circuit, the Springfield Mile is considered the crown jewel of the American Flat Track schedule. It’s considered by many to be one of the most prestigious wins on the circuit and AFT Twins riders will get two shots at it, starting with Memorial Day weekend for the Springfield Mile I on Sunday, May 28.
Memorial Day weekend at the Illinois State Fair Grounds is a long-standing tradition, but new to 2017 – the Mile is an AFT Twins-only race. The support class – AFT Singles – gets their spot in the limelight just steps away from the Mile track at the Springfield TT on Saturday, May 27.
Last year, Bryan Smith Racing took home his third-straight Mile win of 2017 and his third consecutive win on the Springfield Mile. The win accounted for three of Smith’s five wins that helped earn him the 2016 Grand National Championship. Meanwhile in GNC2 (now AFT Singles), Smith’s training partner Ryan Wells Racing scored his first-career Mile win.
