As per tradition, American Flat Track celebrates Memorial Day in Springfield, Ill., but with a new twist. The weekend kicks off with the sport’s stars of tomorrow in the AFT Singles class, racing the Springfield TT on Saturday, May 27.
It’s an action-packed holiday weekend at one of the sport’s legendary venues – the Illinois State Fairgrounds – Coliseum. Fans will get two days of racing instead of just one with the TT track just steps away from the legendary Mile circuit, where the AFT Twins will race the following day.
After a four-year absence, 2017 marks the Springfield TT’s return to the series’ calendar. In the series’ last outing in 2012, Gerit Callies raced his KTM to a victory in the GNC2 class (now AFT Singles), while Henry Wiles took top honors in the Grand National Championship. Unfortunately for Wiles, he will not get the opportunity to add to his TT win tally as the 2017 event will only include AFT Singles.
