Young Guns' CB550
By Anthony van Someren - 03 Jul 12
Lloyd Price is the 25 year old son of a mechanic and nephew of an engineer, and has had machines in his blood the whole of his life. He cut his teeth fixing up cars but he's also a two-wheel junkie, and a big fan and follower of the international custom scene, so like any young gun with a bit of passion, skills and self-belief he set himself up at the start of 2012 in a new workshop under the moniker High Speed Steel so he can do his own thing down in Brighton where the cafe culture is thriving.
His current project is a meticulously put together '77 CB550.
We normally wait till a bike is pretty much finished before we post a story, but looking at Lloyd's work on the speedo dial alone made me think we should tell this story in stages and follow the build.
The donor...
The hardware...
His main goal is to build an aesthetically beautiful stand-out bike that is still useable, day to day. Lloyd has put a huge amount of effort into every detail, including this stainless steel speedo face. The engine is back in it's rolling chassis having been completely rebuilt and meticulously detailed, and the fuel tank has been stripped - and is now off for painting. Next up, exhausts and a wiring loom. Check out the build as it progresses on his own blog, but as Lloyd expects the bike to be finished by the end of August we should also have it up on the Bike Shed very soon.
